I am looking for an excellent computer chess tactics software program.  I have windows Vista.  I heard that CT-ART 3.0 is very good, but when I download the demo, it will not work on Vista.

Is there another program that is designed for chess tactics anyone can recommend and why you recommend it?

    Thanks!

Is Peshka a demo of a fuller program, or is the download complete within itself?

Foe chess tatics, I would recommend Chessimo, here is the link http://www.chessimo.com/trainer/index.php?lang=en&val=en , been using it on and off for quite a long time, and it is really good, u can find quite a few reviews about it, just google it, may want to take a look a the website to grasp a brief view of it, as I currently using it so if u're interested, u could ask me any questions ^^

    Hi. I use Chess Tactics Art 3.0 (CT-Art 3.0) & I use Vista!!

The trick is to go to chessok.com & click on "Help and Support"; there you will find a fix available for Vista users.

CT-Art 3.0 is a wonderful piece of software and I can also recommend their "Chess Tactics for Beginners" and "Chess Tactics for intermediate players".

Again, I have those titles and they do run in Vista.

    Hope this is useful

jerryhuy, I downloaded Chessimo, but it is only temporary until I pay. Is that right? Is it worth the money?

for the price of 50 bucks, I would say it depend on u, how determine are you at improving ur chess tactics, as for me, I quite happy with it, it is worth the money for me, as I still use it after bought it 2 years ago. have u ever come across the article "400 point in 400 days", that ideas is quite similar to the idea of chessimo, play tactics for like 7 times till u get the idea behind it.

Thanks for all the input.  How many tactical problems does chessimo have?  I know CT-ART 3.0 has well over a thousand and is cheaper.  Chessimo sounds good, but I am trying to get the best bang for my buck....as we all do I guess.

It gives me some things to consider...

Just pay and get full access to the chess tactics trainer here.  I've completed over 9,100 problems so far with it and it's well worth the effort.

Is the Chess Mentor online a separate fee from the Diamond membership or is it included?  It looks to me that it is separate.

Yes, I haven't found anything that comes close to this. Chessimo is the next best, in my opinion, of all those I've tried, but nothing beats the interface of Chess Tempo.

IMO, CT-ART is very ugly and hard to use, as is ChessMentor (the offline version).

yes, strongly agree, I also have chessmentor (offline version) and CT art and chessimo, chessmentor is way too ugly to study, it generate no motivation, at that high of the price I would expect the interface to be better though, chessimo is best of three, simply cause it is easy to use, for Ct-art I would have to navigate to desire lesson everytime I open it >_<
