I have a few questions pertaining to Chess Teachers. Do they actually have them anywhere in the United States? I just watched “Searching for Bobby Fischer” and the kid’s coach gave him the rating of GM. Can teachers actually do that?
The titles awarded in the USCF or FIDE must be earned through tournament play within those organizations, a teacher doesn't hand them out. You can look for coaches in the US on the USCF website; http://www.uschess.com, or you can check locally at http://www.njscf.org/home.php. They have a club listing on the New Jersey site and the people there should have reputable coaches they can direct you to.
No. You earn GM status. Here's some light reading

Thanks, I wasn't exactly sure what was up with that.
You misunderstood the point of the movie. Pandolfini(sp?) didn't award Josh the title, it was an honorary award for overcoming certain obstacles. Earlier in the movie Bruce dangled a paper in front of Josh that he could get if he collected x amount of masterclass points (you get them for solving problems and such). It was a gimmick for the kid, something to motivate him, but then later he blew up at Josh and shoved them in his face when Josh seemed to care too much about the points and certificate. Later as a form of redemption he framed a cute little child-like certificate awarding Josh praise and saying how he won the respect of his teacher. Never did it say Josh became a Grandmaster. It was completely symbolic of Josh's and Bruce's struggles throughout the movie.
I never saw it like that, I was wondering where all my master class points were from these hundreds of puzzles I do a day are .
The point was he believed in Josh. It is suppose to be touching.
