For those of you who have USCF ratings, I would be interested in knowing your USCF rating and your slow, blitz and onlne ratings just to see if chess.com ratings are slightly higher than OTB ratings..
My OTB rating is about 1400 but my online varies 200 to 300 points higher and my standard live rating is about the same, a few hundred points higher. The reason I ask is I'm trying to determine if the chess.com ratings are an accurate reflection of a persons chess abilities..Oh,..please include any FIDE ratings as well..
Thanks
FafrdTheBarbarian
Your right, my ratings are about the same as yours. Also, if it were accurate there wouldn't be 2800s because Aronian, Carlson, and Anand aren't on here, i think.

Your chess.com rating is accurate within the chess.com pool. Your chess.com rating correlates to USCF and FIDE ratings the same way your Scrabble rating correlates to USCF and FIDE ratings.
I like scrabble. Would you like to play a game?

If you take a look at this members rating and his opponents, perhaps you consider that they are quite diflated:

My current rating on here is 1759. My YCA (Yorkshire Chess Association) grade is 142 which is equivalent to 1782, so pretty close to my chess.com rating.

As TadDude said, the chess.com rating is accurate within the chess.com pool. It allows people to find their level and get good games with those of similar ability. It cannot really be compared to OTB ratings, as Internet chess is a different beast altogether.

I don't have a USCF rating. However, I can understand why most turn-based ratings might be higher here. Since everything but chess engines are legal, it's easier to obtain better midgame positions than you might in OTB games using various databases e.g. chess.com's own game explorer.

USCF rating 1800+
Rating here 1600+, but I'm still pretty new and have tossed some games without a lot of thought to my moves or I have played while intoxicated, etc.
With 250,000+ players, I'd think that was a large enough sample to be pretty consistant with USCF ratings.
