I play the Tarrasch Variation against the French and the main line against d4 is a very similar position to what you get with that...  I think white is fine here.

As for your line white could play 5. Bd3 instead of 5. e5.

yeah no, Nd2 leads to a tarrach wich will come anyway, this has the added benifit of preventing the capture without wasting tempo, and allowing us to gain a tempo if Houdini plays Nf6
