    6. Bg5 h6 you're retreating and shutting of a square for your knight and bishop. Doesn't seem permanent enough.

    I think I'll just spectate then. I am in no way knowledgeable enough to seriously discuss opening theory. At the level I am, I'm mostly just glad if I can get out of the opening without making serious errors. Being a newbie and all, I'd rather follow this thread along then. Good luck fellasWink

    Bd3 is the main line here.

    Bg5 has a 19% success rate for white and the main line has a 0% success rate.

    You did pick the main line in your deleted post :-)...  get an openings book like me and I'm sure you can contribute.

    Qb6 looks like a future threat

    Yes, but I don't think it's so serious if you don't move the bishop.  For instance in the Tarrasch it's not that serious of a threat because of the Korchnoi Gambit.

    I know it's not exactly the same position but it's something to keep in mind.

    Could you keep a board for post #1?

    How much time are you giving Houdini for its move? On what depth are you allowing it to search? And what CPU core?... That could affect the game overall.

    @ChessisGood good idea

    @thecheesykid its on a normal laptop, the time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves

    The main line here is a3 but I'm not a big fan of this move.  It only has a 34.4% success rate.

    Our two other main options are:

    0-0 with a 51.2% success rate or

    Be3 with a 56.7% success rate
