How many years of playing Chess does it usually take to become a master? Or does it just depend on the person? And have all the masters started young?

While some started very young and had coaching as they improved, there is no set standard in terms of the number of years it takes to become a master. There have been some examples of people who became masters at the later stages of their lives so it proves that anything is possible if people are willing to commit themselves to a goal.
