Seeing as i have recently discovered the conditional move option where previously i hadnt even seen it i have started to use it where applicable.
I was wandering why if a conditional move is set up that is mate in 2 why does the game not end immediately ?
or am i missing something obvious ?
In this case the opponents move is in check and so only one possible option before leading to mate
Incorrect, there are always multiple options:
1. Play a legal move
2. Run out of time
The game doesn't end immediately in order to give your opponent the choice of which to do.
oh ok, i kind of see though all three options in this cae result in a loss, the only legal move was the move which led to checkmate hence my question, resignation would also lead to a loss and so would the time control.
There is no way the computer can know that your conditional move leads to mate. It's not set up to analyze that other than for legality. So only once the opponent makes the move which triggers it does it come into the game.
The functionality of Conditional Moves would need to be extended to include both actions (such as resigning) and, even more usefully, wildcard moves. chess.com seemed to be in favour of it (4 years ago) and there have been some interesting ideas ...
