I take it for granted that in online chess some of my opponents will cheat and I will still beat them.

YEah, not doubt there are some cheaters. I don't think it is as many as anti Online Chess people say, but there are some. This is often a reason for blitz/bullet players to criticize Online Chess.

Funny thing, even blitz and bllet are no longer safe from cheating. There is software now that will make your moves for you in blitz and bullet games on Chess.com

but, still not as prevalent as the cheating in online chess.

How do you know? Have you seen some type of stats on this? I find it unlikely there is a higher percentage of online chess cheating than say live chess cheating. There is just a certain percentage of every population that would cheat. It is very unlikely the percentages between online and live chess are going to be that much.

It would also be just as easy to say that there is more cheating in live chess than online chess because the rewards for cheating are more immediate.

Actually running a chess engine depending on the strength usually takes a long time, based on the free computer engine analysis that chess.com offers. Therefore, the time constraints of a 15/10 game will be an efficacious deterrent compared to an online player who has 24 to upwards of 72 hours. Plenty of time to cheat in my opinion.

Not sure I can completely agree. But, since Chess.com does not release stats on this, we can only speculate.

So what if a man was falling off a cliff and you had to pass a designated area which had a sign that said "Trespassors will be get a obligatory sentence of 5 years in federal penitentiary, absolutely no exceptions," how many of you will the save the man?

i will , then ill move out before they caught me

One way in, one way out. The camera spotted the man a few seconds before you arrived and the guards'  ETA will be within 20 seconds, consequently to save the man will take  20 seconds as well. You have 5 seconds to make your decision or the man falls to his death.

i believe the implied value of a human life according to the premium of insurance companies in America is 10 million dollars, however if I changed it and said if you crossed the designated area for 10 million dollars and can keep it if you serve the mandatory time, 99% of people would do it. However, to save a life of a fellow human being is too much?

Would you serve 5 years and your reward is you saved a life or would you serve the time and cross the designated area for the $10 million ?

Your choice....... If you do not answer it in this thread at least do some introspection by ruminating on the question, honestly.

And ask yourself why you chose that particular course of action and was it worth it?

And what is your life's objective and who taught you these objectives?

And will you change them if you could?

6,000+ Chess.com games between on-line and blitz and I've never suspected anyone. Of course, low-born players like myself don't worry about stuff like that.

Cheating is only a problem for very good chess players. Wish I shared their burden.

I think you're right. In fact, it seems that when people reach a rating of 2000, they receive a letter from Chess.com letting them know the site goes to some lengths to prevent cheating.

At my level, if someone has to cheat, then they must be REALLY bad at chess.Laughing

kleelof

IN fact...if someone is cheating at my level, I would wonder how they are even clever enough to turn their computer on.LaughingLaughing

Whoever answers will get a clandestine prize.

LOL, yes. I agree with you , since we have nearly identical ratings.

Doesn't want to answer the morality question, but wants us to take his/her opinion about cheating seriously.

Thank you macer75 for your honesty, brah. The probity of your character is salient, brah. Now if you don't mind will you answer the follow up questions in post 51, thank you brah.

Macer75 is in the forefront for the clandestine prize.

Man or money question is poorly designed. The immediacy of a human death is so emotional and immediate, while signs... Well, signs are made to be ignored. I would save the man, not because I am moral, but because I would immorally ignore the sign.

As for the money, I need some clarification. Are we talking about prison time more like a WWII Japanese POW camp, or more like a white collar prison with TV and massages from hookers?
