i think you had some better choices along the way. Qd3 allowed the bishop to come block your ability to castle with tempo which i believe was the main reason black was able to get mate faster than you.  I'd take a look at b2-b4 which seems to shore up those problems.

This is french opening - Advantage variation. Main idea for Black is attacking pawn on d4. Look at my game (Gorgonzola).

I will assume you mean 'advance variation', it would be very odd if there was a played variation where you know the opponent gets the upper hand! Wink
