The next "trick" happened to one of my sons, not me. In 2001 my twin sons were 16 and came to Portugal for their first visit. Both are chess players but had never played in a rated competition. They told me they wanted to play in some rated events while they were here so my wife and I took them and the 4 of us played. One of the events was a rapid event in a small town in the south of Portugal. It was a swiss system G/20 min  tourney. After the first round I was told by one of my sons that he had to win his game twice !? I was astounded and asked him what do you mean ? He said he won the first game quickly and his opponent ( who was drunk ) told him that the game didnt count because they had the pieces set up wrong at the start of the game so they had to play again ! My son , not knowing any better, believed him and so played him a second game and won again ! His opponent accepted this second loss and didnt require him to play a third game !  LOL

heh, he should have at least consulted an adult or judge (arbiter) there, see what happens in that case.

In a recent Arbiters Notebook column on Chess Cafe, there was a question:

"A game begins with a reversed white king and white queen and play continues 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 d6 3.Kh5, when Black responds 3...g6 mate.”

Apparently, under current FIDE rules the result stands, since the wrong starting position has to be noticed during the game, and the mate stands provided the mating move was legal. Weird.

Yes, once a result is reached on the board the result is final. It doesnt matter if the starting position was correct or not, nor how many illegal moves have been made.... one of the players MUST catch such things before the game is over on the board, which includes mate on the board or a player resigning the game.

So even you bribe your opponent and set up the board with a one move mate, its legal? i mean i don't think you can be done in for bribing your opponent, well you will, BUT if you don't get caught =) (your opponent says that you have not bribed him etc etc, not drugged).
