Hi, I have had several opponents disconnect, what is the length of time until they automatically forfeit the game?

    Thank you,

The current time of forfeit is 2 minutes, but I and many others are trying to get management to move it down to only 60-90 seconds. If you agree with us then send them a message.

CC should enable a simple option of 5|30 ... 5 minute game, 30 seconds per move. It just has to be an additional option. Nothing in the current configuration has to be altered. Sigh!

    Blitz should be blitzy.

Keep in mind though that not all disconnects are intential. Years back when I was playing those first person shooter Delta Force video games I would get SO frustrated when my internet would drop my connection in the middle of a match... and even more so when I'd get "the blue screen of death" (anyone remember that?). If it was simply a dropped internet connection I could get back in the game in about 3 minutes... if it was that dreaded blue screen or anything else that caused my computer to reboot, it took much, much longer.

Point is, I think those experiences still hold true today, albeit in a shorter period of time [to get back on] and less frequently (and without that blue screen unless you are on a very old PC). It still takes time to get back online to continue the game... for some I suppose it is just not possible to make it in time. When someone disconnects on me I try to remember those things and give them the benefit of the doubt.

With that said, while you are sitting there twiddling your thumbs waiting for your opponent to reconnect you can always look at their past games log to see if they frequently abandon games.

NomadicKnight, mate if you go to any such guy's page, you will typically see a lot of abuse hurled at the person by others s/he's left in the lurch. I still think 5 minute game 30 sec move time option is ideal. Your net freezes, too bad, but why penalize the other guy.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not condoning such things... I'm just saying that sometimes people disconnect and it's NOT on purpose, and with that statement, for people to think of both sides before assuming it is on purpose. I completely agree it's a pain in the butt for the other person (the one still connected) when this happens... but really, what can ya do? Me, I just mess about on my Tablet or go warm up my beverage. You have an excellent point on checking for comments on the person's profile - I've seen that before from a "disconnecter" on his profile notes, so I knew I was in for a 5 minute wait...

    Go in to custom settings.

The disconnect time is as follows:

    Standard- 5 minuites

    Blitz- 2 minuites

My suggestion, would be "one" and only "one" disconnect allowed for one-minute!  I have had players disconnect several times in a game for long time controls!  I do not even know they disconnect as no sound is made, I play OTB, so I do not stare at the screen!!  This issue needs to be addressed if Chess.com is to be taken as a serious chess club and not some kiddy-club!

Thanks for listening to my rant Laughing
