Looking over the comments left on various oppoents' pages on this site, you would think that hatred is more common than affection among chess players.  What are the reasons for this?

    Depends on the opponent.

I play my opponents. That should be enough.

I am indifferent until either they prove to be a good sport or a poor one.

This could simply be a sampling bias. People who feel an active dislike for their opponents are more likely to post about it.

Don't really get angry to be honest.

I don't like my opponent leave the game after he won only one game .it makes me feel so uncomfortable . He did not give me any chances to beat him especially when i lost the previ0us game

Hate and love are both very strong words. There is a grey zone in between them ;)

I would say 90% of the nasty notes people leave are about bullet games, where the opponent was generally upset about losing on time in a winning position. I have met only one bullet player who said a kind thing after a game, and that was CM jtoth

You had your chance in the first game, your opponent doesn't owe you a second one.

Well that's wonderful, but you are doing something you don't have to do, so it's not something you can expect from everyone.

Maybe because they have other things to do and they just wanted to play a quick game? And what if you also lose the next game? Will you expect him to play a third one until you win? You may ask your opponent beforehand if he's willing to play two games with you but you can't expect him to do that only because you think that it would be nice.

Occasionally I get aggravated at myself for missing something obvious. I like most of the people I play. Tend to play the same people a lot and chatter with them.
