    Yes, like BorgQueen said, you would have to define "era". Each poster could define "domination". But Carlsen being very good for two years, and yet your choice, makes "era" quite an elastic term.

    Kasparov is retired, isn't he...? I assume by "this era" the OP means "currently"... I don't know, though.

    I would say that, realistically, it would have to be Carlsen. I mean, his play is quite outstanding, and he is Kasparov's pupil... 

    Though I wish I could honestly say that Yury Shulman was the greatest... He's at least my favorite! =)
