Get it right people. Chess is for GEEKS. Now, there has been some argument in the past over what constitutes a nerd versus a geek versus a dork. To clarify:

A nerd is someone who is ashamed of their intelligence, and sees it as a badge of social shame.

A geek is someone who loves their intelligence and takes delight in their own brilliance and individuality.

A dork is a nerd who isn't half as bright as their IQ might suggest.

A geek suffering from dorkiness is generally considered a #$%&*#, and usually ends up in middle management blathering on about subjects that no one has any interest in for the sole purpose of making themselves look more intelligent than they actually are. In wartime, they usually end up as 2nd Lieutenants, and are subsequently fragged with relish. But I digress.

By these definitions, chess is a game for Geeks - the whole point of the game is to test your brilliance against your opponents. Now yes, there are a fair number of dorks that play chess (because they don't know any better), as well as a great number of #$%&*#. But unless a nerd is really truly trying to make the transition into geekdom, their natural shyness keeps them from compeitition.

Of course, there's one more rung - the freak. These compromise the #$%&*# that are simply too effing weird for anyone to talk to, let alone figure out how smart they are. Many times, they can be found wearing low-rent superhero outfits, and rarely play chess because they end up spending too much time trying to move the green pieces.

And sadly, given your inability to spell, use contractions correctly, or identify sarcastically goofy self-depreciating humor, you're only a dork.

I have been told that people who play / enjoy Chess are (insert subjective negative social label here).  Then they play Chess against me and operate under the delusion they know what they are doing.  It is funny that those who represent the apotheosis of the stereotypical socially-conforming adolescent are deluded enough by their own arrogance to think that they are decent practitioners of that which they scorn.

The Only People who say chess is for nerds, or nerdy, are those who don't know how to play.

You know the problem with people like batmonkey is they don't know how to control their language, don't get me wrong i have been around the block a time or two and have heard it all. I have used some really nasty language in the past so i'm no angel but there is a time and a place for it and this isn't it you have kids on here so either control your language and show a little maturity, notice i said a little or don't say anything and by the way if he doesn't like me saying this well i have been hated before and i didn;t lose any sleep over it then and won't lose any now.
