how does one claim a draw? what are the rules regarding draws? searched chessopedia ,nada.

There is a button next to "Resign" where you can offer your opponent a draw. (Don't push the wrong one) It will change to "Claim Draw" when there are three repetitions of a position. Push it if you want to claim a draw. If there is insufficient mating material or a stalemate, a draw will be imposed by chess.com. Hope this helps you.
