I'm a d4 player. It leads to better games for me. I can actually equalize and then explode with attacks a lot easier with d4 than e4, but that's just me. I feel like I'm in more control as white. On the other hand if someone plays d4 against me, I'm almost always play the Dutch Stonewall variation or Leningrad variation. The Dutch defense is a great defense against d4 and I highly recommend it for people who like closed games.

I hate both of them.I play the english and the van geet(nc3) under most circumstances.

    i like c4 and e4,

c4 because you eventually end up throwing all your pawns forward and getting a lot of space with very few exploitable weaknesses if you place your pieces correctly.

and e4, because scotch game is fun.

White has the inititive, black is the side trying to equalize. White is trying to keep him/her from doing so....

Is e4 really worth having to learn the Scillian?  (I have learned it, so I am kind of bised on this one)
