I think the ecf ratings make no sense to anyone but the members of the ecf , like the old German ingo zahl ratings. Mine used to be 97 and made no sense to me or anyone else except maybe the Germans ? When will you blokes get with the rest of the world and have ELO ratings ?  I think it would help chess for there to be one rating system used by all.....   don't you ?

given that there is a formula to convert ECF to FIDE, I'm not convinced that the UK having its own little system is a big problem. With that said, I do belive the ECF is investigating the pro & cons of a change over.

ECF x 8 + 650 = FIDE
(FIDE - 650) / 8 = ECF

ECF FIDE ECF FIDE
60 1130   170 2010
70 1210   180 2090
80 1290   190 2170
90 1370   200 2250
100 1450   210 2330
110 1530   220 2410
120 1610   230 2490
130 1690   240 2570
140 1770   250 2650
150 1850   260 2730
160 1930   270 2810

For some reason everyones ECF grade seemed to be bumped up by 20 points this year. Anyone know if there was a reason for  that?

I had a BCF grade back in the 1980s (1985 was the last year I played in an OTB tournament) and as far as I recall it was 200ish. Seems to have vanished into the ether since the other bits of Britain declared chess independence.
