I've just mated a friend by accident! His king was advanced in the end game. I moved a pawn 2 squares to check him, believing his adjacent pawn could take mine by en passant. Instead the computer gave me the game.

Is this part of the en passant rule I never knew, or is it a bug in the site?

I've never heard of any rule that en passant wouldn't be valid just because the first pawn put the king in check. Looks like a bug to me but I could be wrong.

I'd put the game up here, but I'm too out of touch with reality to know how.

Thanks. One day I'll become computer literate. Maybe.

No problem. Just wanted to ensure there wasn't a rule I'd never heard of!

You should submit that rule to the official chess commitee, any check made by a pawn that could be taken en passant is an automatic win.
