ENTRIES HAVE BEEN CLOSED TO THIS TOURNAMENT

So, it seems that our national hero and world champion Vishwanathan Anand lost at Corus. I didn't like it one bit. So, I'm starting my own chess tournament for anyone who could not make it at the real thing. It's open to anyone who is interested. Just submit your name and rating in this forum before Monday, 11 February 2008 at 8:00 a.m. IST (0230 GMT). I need at least six players.

Weeelll...

Sorry folks, but I can't have a tournament with three people. I'm not going to cancel it, but I'll keep it open until six players enlist.

Okay, entries are now closed, and I've had 18 entrants through this and two other forums. The rules of the Tournament are thus:

  1. Since there are 18 entrants of diverse ratings, the tournament will be a Swiss tournament with six rounds of 3 days per move turn based chess.
  2. I'll post the pairings (and these rules) in all the three forums, and players must find their opponents and play with the colours assigned. (I'm sorry, but as of now, Chess.com does not support tournaments, so it's going to have to be basic chess)
  3. The games are to be rated by default, but unrated games can be held only by mutual consent.
  4. A round will begin only when all the games of the previous round are over and the results have been posted on any of the forums.
  5. Since the tournament can't go on forever, players whose opponents go on vacation for more than a week may claim victory in the game. If the player does not come back from vacation before the next round starts, he will be paired up and his next game will start, along with the seven day grace period.
  6. Games must be called Encorus Tournament.

These are the rules; though strict, they are fair. In case of any disputes / queastions, feel free to contact me through any of the three forums or message me.

So, to begin, here are the first round pairings:

Raffael(1973) v Kingfork(1445) 1-0
psihrishi(1924) v the_checkmater(1361) 1-0 (BYE)
boylim(1758) v Knightly(1320)
cianlloyd(1606) v Bob_Smith(1251)
Bob1(1589) v RV_Wolfpack(1214) 1-0
Masialeti(1561) v cracked(1200) 1-0
rvmurali(1542) v Zhane(1190) 1-0
Puppaz(1480) v jaller435718(1094) 1-0
BrunZone81(1480) v Jz_Mz(894) 1-0

The first name plays white.

Okay, the_checkmater is disqualified from the tournament. All his future opponents will be granted byes, and one point.

So the first round results (so far) are:

Raffael 1-0 Kingfork

psihrishi 1-0 BYE

Bob1 1-0 RV_Wolfpack

Puppaz 1-0 jaller435718

5 games to go in the first round...
