What happens in a tournament if two players have an identical point score and identical tie break score?

If this happens online, both players advance.

OTB, there are usually rapidplay play-offs and the like. Or, another Tiebreak system is used.

If it's chess.com tournaments I believe both advance, and thankfully so given the length of each round and the time required for a tie-break match.

But suppose these two players share the first position, and it's a 6->2 type tournament? does the third player also advance?

I'm pretty sure the asnwer is no, but if someone is solely out in first place in a 6->2 tournament and there is a tie for second then three will advance.

No, because there are two players who performed better than him. Since the two best-performing players go through, there is no need to include the third.

Aw, shame. Then the highest rated player of the tournament is out :(
