I came across this position in one of my games. I thought I was just the exchange up here but looking at the game afterwards with an engine, I found that the position is actually equal.

    Why is this?

    1. The knight is strong on d5.

2.The position is partially closed in the centre, making it harder to use Blacks material advantage.

    3. Black's pawn structure is shattered, and the knight is attacking the weak pawns. (the f6 pawn)

4.Blacks rook on g8 may be misplaced because of g3

5.White has no obvious targets, or weak pieces or squares (that I'm aware of)

    6. There's some tactic that I am missing and to lazy to search for.

    7. White can play Bh3, to keep the king in the centre, and trap Black's queen, (if he gets the chance)

What did the engine say as it's main line, and what engine?

well also your bishop on f1 does nothing so its almost like you dont have a piece so you would be even

What are you talking about, white is the one down the exchange, but due to his superior position he actually makes up for the material deficit.  That bishop is going to be on h3 very soon where it will be fantastic

It definitely looks a lot easier to play for white at the moment.
