    I knew someone who was brilliant, but then he got involved in chess and became a bore with his obsession. So, I guess she could be right if you're getting too involved in it.

    Well, dude, you're coming to us to discuss your problems instead of talking it over with your wife. Doesn't that sort of answer itself?

    That's not to say you love chess more than your wife, but maybe you could try to teach her chess as a form of bonding. Then chess could be something you share instead of something for you alone.
