fiancettoing the bishop

    there are many Italian and spanish words in chess: guicio piano, ruy lopez, etc.  I even heard that checkmate originates from the German word for a king.

    I have been wondering where the word fiancetto comes from - what language, and what does it mean?

    It is Italian for "little flanking."
