FIDE / USCF Rating Verification

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a game into the game showcase forum.  I was rather pleased with it, as I'd beaten (or so I thought) a FIDE rated player.

Several comments on this game from more seasoned players on here led me to believe that my win was perhaps not as great as I thought it was - so I deleted my original posting and pursued the matter with my opponent.

The basic jist of my email was 'no one I've spoken to believes you have a FIDE rating.  Can I have your FIDE ID number?'

To cut a long story short, it turns out that my opponent does not have a FIDE rating.  My opponent has removed their FIDE rating and replaced it with a USCF rating - which they don't have either!  I've given up to be honest.

So, wouldn't it be an idea to provide a field for both FIDE and USCF identifiers on the player profile so that the rating can be verified?

Well, I suspect that many of the ratings people post here are utterly bogus, just intended to intimidate their opponents. Likewise their pictures, of course (speaking for myself).  I recently played (and easily defeated) a player claiming to have FIDE rating 2500, which is grandmaster level!  Your suggestion about posting ID numbers sounds good.  Of course, people who are serious about posting their FIDE/USCF ratings can add an ID number in their profiles now (assuming they don't want to remain anonymous).
