Finishing

In games that I have won say R, B and N vs K or B and R vs K. People tend to resign, and I understand common chess etiquette is to resign and I do it as courtesy, but I feel that I want to learn how to FINISH a game. I know I am not that good overall but finishing after winning an advantage in the middle game is a glaring weakness.

How to you tell someone "hey let me try to finish instead of resigning" without coming off like a jerk? I want to work on getting to checkmate postion even in a clearly won game like Q and N vs K, B and 3 pawn islands.

Those endings can be long and some require a lot of concentration to avoid stalemate, so I agree that practice is good. However, I think that a computer is a better choice as an opponent, as it doesn't mind being whacked about for ten minutes until you finally put it out of its misery ;)

I know there are some chess.com videos and chess mentor lessons that show how to execute the common endings.

In case you haven't noticed, there is an option after your opponent resigns to play against the chess.com computer, I find that to be somewhat instructive.

Though I find that the majority of my opponents play to mate so often I wonder if they want me to play out to the mate instead of resigning when I know no hope is left.
