In the last few days I have noticed that few if not very few  new posts are on the forums. On the unread category there used to be 10 to 12 pages to browse through. Today only 2 to 3 pages, it depends on when you view the forums and same for other categories of foruns very limited contribution.

What is happening?

Do we need to create more categories such as :

1. Philosophical views and interpretation.

2. Mathemathics

3. International events, by country

4. The best meal I prepared for my husband or wife.

5. Games that you will appreciate.

6. How to make a CD or DVD using your own computer.

7. The best new automobile.

8. Solar energy development.

9. Best choices for heating and A/C and heat recovery systems.

10. Your new house features.

And so on! I believe that members interests need tobe expanded in  specialized topics for all to contribute according to their interest.

Any suggestions?

i agree to an extent paul211, although some of them are a bit too... off topic for this website, and if you categorise forum posts too much then it either probably will alienate people off a topic with few posts, or won't increase new posts at all. Maybe if there were a few signs on the site , "new member? feel free to ask questions on the forum!" "go to our forum for more chess related goodies" ...etc - maybe it should be a Q for the people running the site?

"What is happening?"

Well, every now and then topics have to be taken down and thoroughly cleaned, lubricated and repaired-as-needed. It's all part of the Scheduled Preventive Maintenance Program (SPMP).  While this, of course, produces some disruption in the normal flow of the forums, we do try to keep the disruptions as minor and unobtrusive as humanly possible. We've even considered running old forum topics during such times as filler material. If anyone has any suggestions how to better approach this necessary but unavoidable process, feel free to contact the management.

The forums have been declining recently, eh? Hmmmmmmmmmm. I have been away for the last 5 weeks. Uh Huh, that's right. See the connection?

Getting bored with the "What's your favorite piece?" post time and time again?

No stimulating conversations? No debate? No SUBSTANCE?

Well, that's all about to change.
