In end games, outside past pawns are valuable, and often found on the a and h files. In a Sicilian Dragon, white advances his h pawn to h5 to sacrifice it for an attack. A castled king may rely on an a or h pawn for protection. All pawns are equal.

outside pawns are often targets acutally in endgames but yes in midgame pawn storms are strong

All pawns are equal? I definitely show more love to pawns on the 7th rank than on the 2nd. Laughing

Also lone a+h pawns +K and Rook only draw vs K & R in proper defensive formation in the endgame. BUT they are more valuable in Knight endings, being the hardest pawns for a N to stop .... Also in K&P endings with pawns on both wings, where the "outside passer" often makes for the win. Then again, they may be a negative if blocking a Rook file you would like to be attacking a castled K on ... Of course you might then say they are More valuable then, IF they can be made GONE, as often is the case.

This must affect their Percents some. I'm just not at all sure how muchUndecided. Dan? Dan Heisman, are you in the audience? How about Mr Berliner ? Smile
