Lets try this again. I just bought a year subscription to chess.com, love the site!

Would anyone be interested in a Gay Tournament? - this is not an attempt to divide people. I'd love to have straight members play in the tournament as well.

I think it would be great to be able to network with other gay chess players!

I'm interested.  Maybe you can advertise through the Gay Chess Group to let others know.

 In a sentence : No.

I don't think many gay people play chess. I'm not being discriminative I just don't think there would be a lot of people in the tournament or many who feel comfortable letting others know that they were gay. It might lead to people being insulted which is just giving more work for the moderators.

So I would not be in favour of having a gay tournament.

All players, regardless of sexuality, are welcome to join the tournament I've posted above.

If I had to guess I'd say it was probably because he prefers to believe that he has nothing in common with gay people.

On a more serious note, it was a pretty ridiculous assertion that was pulled out of thin air....

You too funny!Cool

I am not gay but I think anybody has the right to make any kind of tournament they want as long as it is not against the rules of chess.com.

This is ridiculous! Both sexuality and chess are independent of each other. How can you say you don't think many gay people play chess?  Is chess somehow ungay?

This is just another of those bizarre claims that couldn't possibly be backed up by anything. It's like when someone tells you every minute in a third world country a child dies from malnutrition. Shame on you! Don't shoot your mouth off until your brains are loaded, you just end up looking like a goof.

Well I would rather not get in a tournament but the first time I read that I just thought he meant a Happy tournament. Maybe I know too much.

To be quite honest I think homosexual people are, on average, probably more intelligent than non-homosexual people and I think there are probably more than you might think playing chess.  Some may not want to join because of the fear of discrimination, which is a shame.  If I were homosexual I would be the first to join a gay tournament.

intelligence is an inherited mental capacity for learning. if you meant educated, that is different. but to assume that gays are somehow on average born with more intellectual horsepower on average... then all i can say is wow... i wonder which other groups of people you believe are born more or less intelligent.

funniest post in weeks Roy, nice one.  Post # 7 is equally unfounded and biased in the opposite direction.  I have played hundreds of people both over the board and online and I only know of two that were gay; the rest I have no idea, that might have been or they might not have been.  Never thought to ask to be honest.

All I have to go on is the people I know who are gay and the people I know who are not gay.  The gay ones seem more intelligent to me, on average.  I'm just making an observation.  I could be wrong.

Well, it's not like we all have to shower together after a tough game, is it?

Well it would be the first game of chess with four queens involved.
