Giving up too soon.

I can't seem to figure out why some people on this site just give up and resign a game after they lose their queen. I just finished a game that was only six moves in (the sixth being the loss of my opponents queen) and they just resigned. Now, I know that I am not that good of a chess player, but I would have plugged along to see if there would have been another way to try to win the game.

How does everyone else feel about resigning like this?

This is from a 2100 perspective:

If someone didn't resign after droping the queen (without compensation) i'd be rather angry that they tried to carry on. This is mostly because, at my level, droping a queen is a significant disadvantage, which will cost you the game 99.999% of the time. (against me, I doubt even Kasparov himself could salvage such a position.)

mwaltenburg to be honest I think I'd probably play on if you got my queen.

Yeah, Dexter, but I'll bet you wouldn't have moved:  2...Qf6.

There is no way i would have brought my queen out that early unless I was certain that there was no danger.

Yea, in some positions the queen can be lost and there might be compensation.  In this one, however, there is nothing to do and no way to win the game (with a formidable opponent, of course).  I would resign as well, and start a new game.

I recently dropped my queen on the 9th move in an OTB tourney...last game too tired...I just picked up my king, said "good game" and went home. I know this is a very sad story :-(
