How was this move possible at the end for white? It's like a castle without the rook moving.
your allowed to jump rooks on the queen side if your king hasn't moved and the rook only moved once to that file.
but the king can't move two squares.
This is the second diagram I've seen with this issue -- I'd say it's a glitch in the diagram editor/playback.
The king would be so dangerous if he could move like that.
Well it's on the game itself.
the rook was already on the 1st file..
cause bishop moved so the king can castle..
as you can see it was not check before, when the rook was where it was when it castled.
So yeah it is a glitch, but not a major one.
I would consider this a major glitch, it could happen in a game.
Hey, it's my game!
This is weird... my rook didn't move. This confuse me at first and I thought King could move two spaces and I checked my chess book guide. But when I found out it can't I concluded that my game is having a glitch... as you said.
It looks like a viewer glitch. If you skip straight to the end of that game, the Rook is on the D-file like it should be. However, go back a move and the rook STAYS on the D-file instead of going back to a1.
The weird stuff appears to start at 10... Kxd8. Play that back and forth and watch the Black King, he flickers oddly when he captures the Queen.
Yes that is right....
Odd.
When I play the game from the beginning, the rook never moves from a1.
When I play the game backwards from the end, the rook never moves from d1 (until it is "replaced" by white's queen on move 2, after which a1 remains empty, even at the start of the game).
Hope that helps whoever address the glitch. :)
It's not just a problem with the forum viewer, either--the same glitch happens when you look at the actual game.
<edit> I guess that's obvious, since that's where rich would have found the game in the first place.
Looking at that gives me a headache... </edit>
and that's my game... huhu what should I do ? and the glitch may somehow dissappear after my oppnent moves...I think.
It might go away but it shouldn't happen.
Interesting glitch, I found one myself a few days ago that would not let me move my King even though it was not in check nor was it moving into or through check.... I was playing against the computer here on the Hard setting. and I felt like I could have won that game but it totally cheated me out of it.
Anyways, this Java crap has been buggy since it was first invented and it seems like it's still half-arsed today. Don't hope too hard for any glitches to be fixed, it could be an internal Java problem and not the chess programming.... I've never trusted Java, and never will.
Thanks. We're looking into this.
We're in the process of fixing this bugs. I'm sorry for the inconveniences. We hope to have them fixed before the end of today.
Regards Java...one of the original developers/architects is a female chess player pal of mine and former National Champion of Lithuania.
Her Husband's an IM, and both her daughters play too.
