I was just wondering, what is your goal in chess?  Is it to win money, do well in a tournament, get to a certain rating, play that one brilliant game of chess, or something else?

Make 1 move (or combination/series of moves) that is better than what you saw. Laughing

I need to support my trendy heroin habit. Chess hasn't proved to be a money maker - yet. Hey, I'm desperate!

Seriously though, I play to keep my mind sharp. At my ripe age of 30 I'm trying to prevent stagnation of the brain. I just hope I don't turn out like the late Bobby.

Always wanted to become good enough for lifetime title of FM.  Ratings fluctuate, but international lifetime titles are like Super Bowl rings.  USCF Expert is about my maximum.  Too old, not enough money, not enough time.....  Taking down a good player from time to time seems to be my limit.  Doesn't matter.  Love the game.

Have fun, learn something new, challenge myself and keep my mind sharp (at sharp as possible, anyway).  Chess fits the bill pretty well, although I feel like I'm in a small slump lately -- too much good holiday food maybe.

Fits to a tea. Coudn't explain it better myself. Seems like we have something in common.

I can't play chess for pure fun, fun for me is competetion and winning. I am a competetive person and chess proved to me it's one of the most ego satisfier games i ever played. Ofcourse fun is attached to it too.

So basically my goal is to become the world champion.

Enjoyment mostly, but surely one of my reasons is to keep my mind sharp, so in my golden years they don't have to pin an "If found please return to..." note to my shirt any time I go out.
