    Hi to all,

i was checking this website for chess records, for longest games shortest games..... and i found this category named "greatest number of castlings". in this category i saw a game where white castled TWICE. how is it possible??? the rule is clear "the king must never have moved before the castling" so how could the second castling occure? wouldn't the king be considered as moved for the first one?

here's the link for the game : http://www.xs4all.nl/~timkr/records/records.htm

No referees and two players with alzheimer, my guess.

It is not possible. The move was illegal.

does this work in tournaments? if someone made an illegal move and his opponent didn't point it out immediately, they just continue the game??!!

I once saw a game where a master was playing a lowly ~1400 player and after many moves his K wandered back to e1...a few moves later he caslted (on the other side...).  Only after the game did both players realize what had been done...His name is....being protected.  Let's put it this way, he's got a lot of dents in his USCF ratings floor right now.

Related (sort-of) note: Anybody hear about the rule that says if your K hasn't moved (say as white), and you get your R to e8, that you can castle vertically?  It's complete BS, but funny to think about....how would you annotate that?!!?  "e-e" or perhaps "e-e-e"?!!?!?

    Enjoy,

Just in case someone tries it. See FIDE rule here.

The right for castling has been lost:

    1. if the king has already moved, or

    2. with a rook that has already moved
