How Do You Improve Your Rating? What has worked to help your chess rating the most, was it chess.com, talking with other players, playing against strong chess engines or players, or a certain book?
Look in the mirror and say "Bobby Fischer" three times.
If that doesn't work plays lots of games and analyse them when you are done.
going over grandmaster games... reading and hearing GM analysis
Standardizing my opening repertoire (making smart choices about what moves to play against my opponent's responses) and then training to remember the choices I made so I am prepared for the opening and I get games I am comfortable with and familiar with in the middle and endgames. Also, studying tactics (selected tactics, not random tactics) and playing the resulting position to checkmate against a strong engine (practicing converting a material advantage). Playing guess-the-move with annotated master games, and Stoyko exercises (which I do graphically with a program called Blumind to map out the calculation trees graphically--it helps me to learn to organize my calculation in my head by doing in a graphically organized way on "paper" when practicing).
I'm a big believer in the idea that you need to be able to do something perfectly, slowly, and on paper before you try to do it perfectly, quickly, and in your head.
