Not sure your meaning...if you mean the gambit I played looking "bad"...I assure you it isn't.

Yeah, only the french could allow a disaster such as this...

Keep in mind just a 1 min. game.  Although I've won with this gambit at longer times, it isn't really reliable against good competition at high level with enough time.  It more throws a regular French Defense player so many complications, with natural play leading to disaster, that it works very well in quick.

I recently had this played against me in one of my (very few) CC games here -- I'm glad I encountered it here first and not at a tournament Smile

First the Caro-Kann and now this. That should keep theory down quite nicely since it looks like you're using the same ideas from the other game. 8...Nd4 looks dangerous though. Now for that Petroff...

Actually I have played this much more...I just tried it against the caro.  But good eye!

After 11...Nd4 I think Black has a small, but very real advantage

yes...Black does...but the issue black has is to make up his time loss by dealing with the complications in a 1 min game.

True..but black still has a small advantage and this is why the gambit is considered "no good".  However, it is so dangerous, and full of pitfalls, that it makes it a great tool to have in your belt when playing blitz or 1 min.  I like it because natural moves create more problems for black.

immortalgamer, I don't think this is even your best 1 minute game with this opening. I remember losing miserably to it. ;-)

I think the main line has black equalizing with a small advantage.  You know computers these days give half pawn advantage.  In human terms I'm not ever going to be at that sort of level to take advantage of a half pawn advantage to victory.

Nice game!  I didn't know I played you with this one?  I'm happy to see you've put it into your bag of tricks!

    No no I'm sorry...

Thanks it's called the "Orthoschnapp Gambit" if you'd like to study it.

    Here is the mainline:
