I have been playing a game here with another guy. This guy, has kept playing me until the end, when it was evident many moves before that he had lost the game. Not too kind, but it's ok, is his right to play until the end. I just took a look at his profile to see if he did this only to me or if it was part of his usual behaviour here. And I saw that he had more games in similar conditions to mine. Today, finally, i checkmated him, and took a look at his profile again. To my surprise, I see that this guy has recently won 4 games on time with new users who played his first game here and that made only one move in each game. Easy and nasty way to keep your rating while you are loosing real games. To whom should I report this?

This is not really cheating, it is part of the rules in correspondance chess: If your opponent does not move within the alotted time they lose.

You should only report it, if you believe that he has setup these accounts on his own in order to boost his rating.

Also note, that if your opponents time out after only one move, you do not get a higher rating because of it.

That's exactly what I think. Too many coincidences.

Games with fewer than 4 moves don't count towards ratings.

Then you should click the Report Abuse, that is available at the bottom of every web page

How can he be cheating if the games timed out after only 1 move? You don't get rating points until after the third move has been played. Also, why would you look to see if he continues to play out lost games against other people? That is not a sign of cheating. Everyone has a right to play to the end. If playing to the end was cheating then everyone here must be a cheater by your logic. Reporting him is a waste of time because there is no cheating to report.

Games won so quickly have zero effect on ratings.

I looked at your page to see if I could figure out who it is you were talking about because I had my own idea about what was going on.  If it is who I think it is, then I noticed he has several "unrated" games against new players.  This means that he is a chess.com greeter, just like I am.  Unfortunately, most of these games end with the new player timing out after only having made few moves, if any.  Those games would not have changed his rating even if they had been played to completion, since they are unrated.

Good find, omipaul. So he's not cheating to boost his rating, and in fact, he's probably an ambassador of good will for new players.

I was not aware of the four move rule required to change ratings. Thanks for that info.

Wow, you really look bad now for accusing him, don't you ROFL? I just looked at this forum and laughed pretty bad... sorry but i think it's funny how quick we are to blame things on others...

Yes, please use the Report Abuse link rather than making public accusations. Thank you.

Sigh, this cheater hysteria really needs to stop.  Especially if the guy is a greeter then this is just pathetic.  Also, something like 60% of all chess games are decided in the endgame.

Wow,

If this was a greeter game, then he was probably surprised it went beyond two moves!

Secondly, if he was anything like me, he was waiting for some sort of communication, like, no questions thanks for the intro, or no, everything is okay, thanks for the game, etc.

Greeter is a thankless job.

You let people win and you're a loser, you beat them and your a heartless bas%$&d, no win.

Anyway, still do it, as the odd person is an absolute gem!

Let him be and don't let him learn; he will have to play harder and harder people and loose.
