Can someone be confident before starting a game that he will win for sure??
scottk74

porcupinetree
ChessNetwork sure can.. he has played 2558 1min games and he only lost 3 of those which probably happened due to disconnects. That is just so mysterious to me.

only if i am playing a person rated 500 or less
oh! well, thank u all for contributing. Actually my question was a bit different. I meant to ask if there are any tricks or skills that can make u feel quite confident about winning even before u just start a game. Bcz I have seen a number of players who have very few losses in their record compared to their victories. What is the secret of there success. Skill or luck??

Some of them always play people who aren't as good as they are. It's pretty lame.

Only if I was against timmaylivinalie every time.
But seriously if you want to win “LEARN ENDGAMES”. Don’t wonder threw a game guessing where to put pressure, or how to win a won game. Endgames knowledge lets you know where to direct the pressure and material you gained in the open and middle game. It can even help you draw a lost game.
I always considered the mid game to start when the players leave the main open lines and start to get tactical. This depends on how well you or your opponent know the open. It could start on move 3 or move 20.

First: I think you have to go into a game/competition with a plan on how you are going to win. With a plan, everything begins.
Second: When you have a plan, you also have to believe in those plans and believe you can win. If you have no belief in your plans, find another. And keep going until you have one you can believe in.
Understand your obstacles and know a way to circumvent them; "if this happens, then this is what I am doing, if that happens, then this is what I am going to do."
If you are prepared, then your chances are better.

Good players are usually experienced players. But chess skill goes very deep, and so teaches humility. Experienced players have almost certainly had this lesson pounded into them.
So, as these answers suggest, the only way a player (myself included) is very confident is when their opponent is much weaker. Years past I had Yahoo! IDs with silly records like 115 wins and 7 losses... based on my record I was accused of cheating, but this type of record isn't hard as long as you play people who are much worse than you over and over.
