I had a bad tournament experience here at chess.com

    -------

I played in my first tournament here a chess.com, a 15/10 tournament, yesterday evening.  I was enjoying it a great deal, all was going well, I won my first two games but then I noticed that for some reason my rating actually went down instead of up.  Then at the start of my third game an ad appeared over the chessboard and there was no way to remove it.  After waiting about five minutes, with my clock running the whole time, I hit the refresh button to try to clear the problem up.  When I got back to the game it said I had lost due to abandonment.  Seriously, I feel like I've somehow pissed one of the moderators off, or maybe this is the site's administrators way of "encouraging" people to become paid members.

    What's the deal?

I have also had the same problem with the ad over the board.  I managed to clear it up with a refresh, without getting a game abandonment.  This is notencouragingbe to buy a membership.  This is encouraging me to quit the site.  (I'm not quite that mad about it, but I would be if it began happening on a regular basis)

It just happened to me again.

Kind of juvenile tactics for a site run by adults, eh?

Oh well, no more tournaments for me.

     Idiots?  Very helpful response.

So you're stupid and, by the looks of your picture, a douche-bag as well.  A true double threat guy.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

Can you tell me what type of ad it was?

If it was an 'upgrade' ad, during your tournament, did you try creating another game?

Would you mind taking me step by step through what happens, what you're doing, anything you clicked on when the ad appeared please as i do need to re-create this so i can see whats triggering it and get it fixed.

Now you may find it inconceivable or at the very least a bit unlikely
that the relative position of the planets and the stars could have
a special deep significance or meaning that exclusively applies to only you,
but let me give you my assurance that these forecasts and predictions
are all based on solid, scientific, documented evidence, so you would have
to be some kind of moron not to realize that every single one of them is absolutely true.

    Where was I?

I didn't click on anything.  My fourth game in the tournament started and there was an upgrade ad over my opponent's section of the board.  There was no X on the ad that would allow me to close it, so after a few minutes I tried to refresh, and then lost the game because of abandonment.

It could just be this computer I'm using, it's old and on a dial-up connection.

    Anyways, thanks for the response.

I can assure you that browser or internet connection had nothing to do with it...  It happened to me on a very good computer with decent internet.  It was an upgrage ad for me as well, that I couldn't even trigger to get rid of.

Your destiny lies in your own hands. Don't enjoy ads? then block them out:
