You fail to realize that the people who opted to drop their unwanted animals at my doorstep, had the right to take those animals to the shelter first. The shelters in this area began charging a fee to put the unwanted ones down, since over 90% of unwanted animals are destroyed. These animals having become sickly, diseased and needing treatment. This fee rose to $75 U.S. per animal within the last five years. Instead of spaying or neutering their pets, they drop them off in the country in lieu of paying this fee. They wish to avoid their responsibility of taking care of their own problems. Even Angels for Animals are turning away our calls due to the vast numbers of strays.
These hunts are not trophy hunts. The dogs contract rabies from the raccoons in the area, and do not eat the treated pellets left out for the coons. If these dogs attack livestock or children, then we have to treat it as possible rabies.
The response of the farmers in this area to kill stray dogs has a twofold purpose. One is to insure the safety of our community and businesses. Second is to try and force those individuals to take responsibility for their own pets. Some in the area have voiced the opinion that they don't want to kill the animals themselves, but have no other recourse.
We have been overwhelmed by the hundreds of strays dropped off in our area. Each farmer dealing with 20-30 animals a year. I have room for eight dogs, two inside, six outside. The strays are attacking the dogs who have become members of the family. If you have a possible solution, then offer one. If you don't, your just part of the problem. If a bear or bobcat shows up we get immediate responses from the authorities. Dogs are only dealt with as they get the time or after they attack children, pets, or livestock. Then we are asked to hunt them down.
I know this may be a bold move, but here goes nothing:
Hogwash! (?)
The key word you used was 'if,' as in 'if noone adopts them.' I'm still a meat eater, I can't stand PETA, and I don't throw paint on fur coats. Simple things like giving an animal a shot(pun intended) at getting adopted rather than immediately killing it or trophy hunting disturb the hell out of me. With trophy hunting, one literally has to go out of his way to kill animals.
'Animal rights whackos'... I like that. Another sweeping generalization from the master. There happen to be many animal rights whackos who are opposed to abortion, but that wouldn't suit your purposes, would it?
While this may be true it has definitely NOT been my experience. First let me clarify what I mean by "whackos" when it comes to "animal rights" . For me they are those people who think animals have the same rights as humans, or should have. Now, among them the vast majority of them (that I have had any dealings with) have no problem with abortion at all. Perhaps you should clear up such things before going on the attack? Just a thought.
So, because of your limited(I'm assuming very limited) dealings with such a group, you feel that qualifies you to suppose the stance each person's views on an unrelated topic? Have you taken polls? If so, were they conclusive that 100% of all animal rights whackos have no problem with abortion? Perhaps you should clear up such things before you run your mouth off.
I dont really know, nor care, what your problem is but its obvious your parents failed to teach you any manners. You wouldnt speak this way face to face with me.
Oh here goes...
I'm a vegetarian
if we were not supposed to eat animals, why then are they made out of meat ??
I am humbled by your wonderful logic
And to show my agreement I am going to have that beer I have been denying myself. After all if I wasn't supposed to drink it then why is made out of...
hey now!!!
i want to asseret that there are no dirty words, there are just dirty minds!
So, CHEERS TO YOU, TIMMAY!!!
YEAH!
Thanks for the information on this and your earlier posts. In the UK I find that there is a real disconnect between the farming community and the general public. Real facts, rather than opinions (and please I'm not aiming to diss anyone here) are a real help to reaching my own opinion. I don't approve of hunting for sport but I understand the problems which have led you to your solution

an old Indian word meaning bad hunter
imagine that, a humble vegatarian - although it may not sound like it i am actually envious, somewhere embedded in my subconcious i know that you have the correct answer but it will probably stay embedded for a while to come - please allow me now to present some more logic...i am guessing that you do not drink very often and that when you do it affects you almost instantaneously, also that you had your first sip after you typed the word "drink" - until that point you were entirely coherent, refer "After all if I wasn't supposed to drink" even the punctuation ; after the word "drink" however it went downhill pretty fast, refer "it then why is made out of..."i am now going to join you in enjoying a beer, cheers !
well put ;)
UNDER the impression that a-- was not a swear word in America I apparently caused my following funny to be banned from publication: "Confucious He Say Never Kick A-- having bricks in Pocket else You may end up Wrong Footed !"Was quoting my reply to a comment in a game in fact which used same word Thought it was merely country barn language.Incidentally this was second time a comment was marked "not published"but reasons thereof not being given leaves me in doubt how I have offended and also therefore how best to put matters right.
"I dont really know, nor care, what your problem is but its obvious your parents failed to teach you any manners. You wouldnt speak this way face to face with me."
My parents taught me to respect those who deserve it. Assuming you'd be willing to spout the same trash you write here, I'd have no problem speaking to you the same way in person.
Then your parents taught you wrong. You should be respectful of everyone whether they deserve it or not.

i'm a veg. but lol!
Sounds to me like you are just a failed musician with too much free time. It seems to have resulted in bitterness/anger issues. Perhaps you should seek help?
Okay, I'll go treat the local crackheads to dinner and apologize for thinking ill of them. I treat everyone I meet with respect until they show that they are not worthy of respect. How do you feel about murderers? Do you respect them? Rapists? Terrorists? Drunks? Liars? Pedophiles? Drug dealers? Adulterers? Thieves? Where do you draw the line? I respect a person based on his/her values and actions. Compulsory emotion is a vile thing. Weren't you taught that you need to earn respect? You show no respect for my parents because you disagree with them on what values to teach a child. Does that make you a hypocrite?
There is such a thing as 'getting along'. If you want other people to get along with you and respect you then you have to show them the same. if you don't make an attempt to get along with other people then your life is going to be filled with conflict and stress. Respecting people is not the same as liking them. If you don't like your next door neighbor, that does not give you the right to speak ill of them or treat them poorly. And who are you decide who is worthy of respect and who isn't? How would you like it if you moved to a new place and everyone there decided that you weren't worthy of respect? Your life would be hell because nobody would want to be your friend or do business with you or anything else. You would be ostracized from the community even though you may have never done anything to the people of that community. You are judged by the same yardstick with which you judge others. Remember that.
Another thing, we all influence the world around us in ways that we sometimes don't understand. The way you treat other people can have an influence on who that person becomes later in life. Isn't it better to treat everyone kindly and decently and put them on a road to a positive future? If someone is going through a rough time and is a t a crossroads in their life and someone comes along and dumps all over them it could put them on a road that affects all of us in a negative way. Do you want your next door neighbor to be a serial killer and a danger to you or an upstanding citizen and valued member of the community? How you treat them today could determine their future and that of yourself and the wider community. Being judgmental of people rarely works out in a positive way.
From what I've heard of serial killers, they tend to particapate in their hobby away from home. Therefore, living next door to one is probably the safest option. They also help to cut down on traffic congestion.
I guess what you say does have merit. For example, I dislike the journalist Carol Malone, she is a stupid faced idiot. However, if I was in a restaurant I would not stab her in the face with my soup spoon. But here's the thing, although I'm respecting her, I'm I doing the right thing? The answer is a resounding no. Any social 'norm' can prevent logical thought and actions, no rules should be followed blindly :)
Cheers
When one feels the need to swear, one should simply use words that sound similar to the desired swear word. Why not say "Fork you, forkface!" or "Eat chips and go to bell, you trucking glassbowl!"?
If I said either of these things, my friends would put me to the sword, and rightly so in my opintion. Use the correct tool for the job - if it needs a swear word, apply it, and use a proper one to get the job done right :)

There is a difference between civility and respect. Just because I am civil towards you does not mean that you have my respect; If I am not civil towards you, however, you can most certainly conclude that you do not.
Silent,
you gotta hand in to Reb, he's a Good Ol' Boy and at least the old curmudgeon is consistent. I don't think you really would stand up to him.... I mean, a man with a raccoon-skin hat and a glinting bowie knife is quite an ask!
