When one feels the need to swear, one should simply use words that sound similar to the desired swear word. Why not say "Fork you, forkface!" or "Eat chips and go to bell, you trucking glassbowl!"?

If I said either of these things, my friends would put me to the sword, and rightly so in my opintion. Use the correct tool for the job - if it needs a swear word, apply it, and use a proper one to get the job done right :)

 Fork you, Forkface!

Aw no, I really did leave myself open for that one.

School boy error on my part :)

Swearing can be fun, especially by unlikely people in odd situations.  Our vicar swearing is always entertaining.  I find unusual insults really funny though and more effective than the normal swearwords, such as 'You shubunkin faced dingbat'

Swearing is off limits. And you have a rating of 0, I say you give chess up as a bad job and try out for cards or draughts !

there is an old saying that your right to throw a punch ends at the tip of my nose.

a person's right to express themself does not trump other people's rights not to be offended. obviously a line that must be drawn at some point, and we have drawn ours. i understand that swearing is sometimes used for some people's kind of humor, but that is best kept in groups where that is understood to be accepted, not in the general public.

i'm sure there are places to play chess with more tolerance for abuse or swearing, but not chess.com :)

I thank you for your decision in regard to vulgar language on the website. I, for one, am offended by such language. Though I can't get away from it totally, if it can be limited, it is. I am glad it is not present on chess.com. You drew a good line on this. Thanks again.
