So has anyone ever wacthed that show on MTV, MADE. Well I have always thought it was a cool concept. So when I started playing chess on chess.com I was no good, and I am still no good. Here's my challenge...

 "I wanna be made..."

I don't wanna be made into any old thing I wanna be made "..into a chess player."

THE RULES

  • I get two weeks to get my skills to top level, or as high as I can get them.
  • I NEED A MENTOR OR SOMEONE TO TAKE ME UNDER THEIR WING AND BE MY COACH FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!
  • At the end of two weeks I enter in a tournament. Of course my goal is to WIN!
CHALLENGE: So for all you mentor/coach/chess players out there that wanna make me, a never one a game chess player, into a tournament winner. Just post in this forum and I'll pick a coach out.

FOR THE COACHES:

My coach needs to be dedicated to helping me. So if you don't want to you don't have to. For the next two weeks they need to play almost everyday. If you really want to take the spirt of the MTV show, you can set-up challenges or tasks.

If you are chosen (I might just pick the first person, or maybe not) I will messege you.

 */*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/\*/UPDATES\*/*/*/*/*//*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

Throught the next two weeks I will post details about how it is going.

  • I have a coach for only one lesson. I am off to find more. Coach: ilovegambits
  • A CHALLENGE: basstian said "And I don't believe in the concept of becoming a tournament chess player in 2 weeks. To prove me wrong I hope you will challenge me after 2 weeks or post something so that I can witness the game."So in two weeksI will tell him about the tournament and challenge him as well.
  • TO E-MAIL ABOUT LESSONS/COACHES/MENTORS or other MADE: CHESS related stuff send messages to madeintoachessplayer@chess.com
  • 1st lesson, UNDERSTANDING THE KING.
  • Basstian posted a place where I can get lessons, yes the same person who challenged me after two weeks.
  • I scheduled myself for a tournament in a week, halfway through, to get a feel for what a tournament is like. But to enter into the tournament in two weeks I have to complete 10 Online Chess games, so that is my first task.
  • 1-0 White won! FORD-Mustang won by checkmate. Your new blitz rating is 937. Well the lesson worked already. I won my first game. I want to post another challenge for myself. MY NEW CHALLENGE IS TO WIN 5 GAMES BY THE FIRST TOURNAMENT.

  • MY SECOND COACH AND FINAL COACH/MENTOR IS lanceuppercut_239.

interesting concept to get free chess lessons...

I believe in the show made it is a person that they envy... and that person gets something out of it. :P  I like learning through teaching... but I think differently *edit- stupid internet posted before I was done* or atleast learn differently than most people I find...

I'm no couch though mind you. :P

This is rather interesting. I can provide u with one lesson atm but nothing more. U will have to find yourself a coach who has that kind of time on there hands

I agree, creative approach. But I'm not a good coach.
And I don't believe in the concept of becoming a tournament chess player in 2 weeks. To prove me wrong I hope you will challenge me after 2 weeks or post something so that I can witness the game. I'm very curious. (ps. I'm not a tournament level player. more like intermediate. But if you could beat me after 2 weeks I'd be surprized.)

Instead do you know any chess players? I will teach a few friends to play soon. In person, to get them playing at all and hopefully on a decent level. This is far more interesting for both sides.

I'll take you up on your offer. But if you know of someone who is a level chess player who would be a good coach, and willing, send him/her on over.

Would you like fries with that order?  A great chess player, and instantly.  Stay off of drugs.  Being a great chess player takes time.  Ask the masters if they will even talk to you.

"I wanna be made"

Sorry, our books are closed at this time, we're not taking on any new members. You also have to be of Italian/Sicilian descent.

Sincerely,

Tony Soprano

That is kinda the point. I want to see if I can take my mediocre skills to the next level in just two weeks. I don't know if I will be able to, but I will sure try.

I can only see one possibility for you to achieve your aim in 2 weeks. You need a bunch of misfit war veterans (on the wrong side of the Law), a large van (complete with alloy wheels and "go faster" stripe), and some suitably rousing music playing in the background.... and then, weld like you've never welded before!

I love it when a plan comes together!

I'm sure you'd be able to find a coach to 'make' you if you'd offer to pay for the lessons, especially with the rigorous training plan you're proposing.

I don't think that it is too demanding. I know that some people play everyday and most of the day.

I doubt two weeks will make a difference. This is based on personal experience (although I didn't have a coach). I practiced and studied hard-out for 1 week and 4 days, before paricipating in a tournament (this tournament wasn't a knock-out type) In seven games (just seven), I won 2, drew 1 and lost the rest. Both wins were extremely difficult, and the losses, I lost by at least 12 points in material, each. The draw was because of my opponent's poor endgame (he was beating me by 17 points and stalmated me).

Note: This was a not a "large" tournament, but nor was this a pure friendly one.

Well even if I don't win a tournament, winning a game would help me. I am going to play two. One in a week, halfway through just to get a feel of how it will be and one in two weeks at the end of the MADE experience, along with all the challenges I have to play other people.
