Do you guys keep getting requests from people you never heard of wanting to be your friend on this site? I do, and it's a creepy feeling. "We don't know each other but I want to be your frieeend." Get away! The strange part is then you are compelled to give an explanation why you choose not to be their friend. This is awkward. "Uh, doesn't call on birthdays." What are you supposed to say? Shouldn't the guy be required to give an explanation why he wants to be your friend in the first place? Give him a chance to win you over. It's only fair.

well I think it makes sense in some situations. I accept everybody. but I do not invite.
I think if someone enjoyed playing against you. they can see you on their online list- (if you are their friend) and challenge you if they feel like it.

Much more satisfactory if they would just stalk you instead (via the Tracking feature) - or at least have the decency to stalk you first.

The word "friend" means more as I get older, but I do understand the obviously limited meaning it has on the internet. So I'm far from creeped out by the request. I simply ask "Why", or, "Do I know you?". Maybe they just like what you've said in the forums, gbidari.
If that doesn't make them think twice, nothing will.
? I don't understand?

Do I know you?

You just miss the point, it's not like someone enters in your home and attaks you. This site is a comunity of players and conversation is a necessity in our days.
Do not give, in your profile, data about your exact location, name and so on. You are not obligued to be friend with them and adding friends is your choice.
This is my opinion.
I have NO IDEA what the joke is, and I love a good joke, so what's the joke, meaning, etc.?

if i do not know the person, i simply say that i do not accept friend requests of people i do not know or remember playing.
if we've played a recent game, i'll most likely remember you and accept your friend request.
To me: "Do I know you?" seems like a put-down, a conversation stopper. Imagine someone comes up to you at a party and greets you like a long-lost friend, and you say: "Do I know you?". Don't you think that sounds just a little cold? (Maybe it all depends on the tone of voice.)
Oh. Yes, it would depend on the tone. Nothing mean meant by it when I type it though, just a question.

In order to ask the question, you presumably have to decline the friend request (unless you send a separate message). It would be neat if we could respond to a Friend Request with an RFFI (Request for Further Friend Information).
Good idea!

I dont think it means anything more than just friends here on the internet in our chess community.
just some one to add to your list of friends and you can play a game of chess whenever you want or can

So once upon a time there was this person with a hot pic who requested to add me as a friend and i accepted.. for months we talked each night and on the phone and we were in a very good cyber-relationship.. then we decided to meet, she lived 10 hours away so we met halfway in a cheap motel.. i drove for 5 hours all excited.. There she was.. waiting by the door.. it turned out to be a man with a fake pic and girly voice.. so.. BEWARE of creeps adding you to your friends.
