Back in the days the Orthodox Defence was immense popular and one Capablanca played frequently. But nowadays you don't see it that much, unlike the Ruy Lopez.
I wan't to play like Jose Capablanca!
Did he play a lot of the Ruy Lopez? Most of the games I've seen of his were some kind of queen-pawn opening, lots of QGD. Anyway, from what I've seen, openings were not really Capablanca's thing; he didn't really play many sharp & energetic lines. His strengths were as an excellent middlegame player, and one of the best ever at endgames.
I love Jose Capablanca!I've downloaded a lot of his games and try to study his no non sense straight approach to playing. Besides the Ruy Lopez, is Capablanca known for any other openings I should be looking at and studying? Thanks, for the help guys
Gary Kasparov once said in his last few articles in Ches Asia Magazines that when we study the games of a certain master(infact he cited capablanca) we will in some instances play like the master plays. Capa is not known as an opening specialist , but both middlegame and probably the best in endgames.
If you are interested in understanding his playing style. I suggest you get a copy of his "My Chess Career" and "Capablancas Last Lectures" and alos include "Capablancas Chess Endings".Its worht every penny.
So, do you want or won't play like Capablanca?
I wish my playing capabilities were half that of Capablanca's. I would be happy with that.
If you want to meet and learn Capablanca's games, endings etc join his group!

I recommend you go in the other direction study Capablanca's endgames under a microscope not his openings if you do that you'll learn alot and have a much deeper appreciation for his power and skill.
I'm a huge fan of Capablanca I study his games and read books on him a few of my favorite Capablanca games:
1) Playing Black vs Aaron Nimzovitch in 1913 in Riga (Exhibition Game)
2) Playing White vs David Janowski San Sebatien 1911
3) Playing White vs David Janowski Newyork 1913
4) Playing Black vs Emmanuel Lasker Havana 1921 (Tenth Game)
