For some time I have been pondering on offering my insight in the chess game as I have played for quite a number of years.

I am offering to 3 new players that want to learn the game to challenge me, players with 1200 rating or lower, and to possibly help them become better players.

I  will not only give advice on a given move but also say why and explain her/his gameplan.

So if you are interested join me and I do prefer novice new players to the game as I can contribute much more than advanced players.

I just started playing in May 08' to help my son learn - he doesn't get any teaching in chess club.  I am really dedicated to learning and playing so my rating just got to my highest ever - 1600.  But I have a lot to learn - especially with pawns & endgames - I know zero.

I'm rated higher than you mentioned, but you won't get anyone who appreciates the help more, or is more dedicated to follow your lessons.  Of course, I would use it to help my 8-yr old son also.

Contact me if you are willing - Thanks!

Dan

You claim chess is a useless waste of time in your blog Paul, why spread the disease? Undecided

I'd love to take you up on your coaching/advice offer. I just tried challenging you, but got the automated reply that you don't accept challenges from players rated < 1200.

Peace, Kevin

This topic was for fun only, just wanted to reaction from people and get a forum with posts going on for a while. I haved played chess for over 45 years, so do you think at all I was serious? Part of life is to let go and try to have some fun.

It is fairly difficult to get a response on a forum unless:

1. The title is catchy enough to get people curious enough to read it.

2. The topic is of interest to the reader and s/he want to give an opinion or just agree or disagree.

Obviously I did not succeed on #2 above in my forum.

Thanks for asking as this enabled me to explain the reason for the forum I opened.

I have offered 4 canditates to be their mentor.

I apologize to those that I have not sent a private message asking their reason(s) for needing coaching.

If you fell that I have not heard your message clearly then it is up to you to send me a message and convince me that you want my help. I will accept only one more person, so be convincing, first impression not only counts, but remains forever.

I am reducing my total number of game to 5 to be challenged by the chess.com players, so I can devote myself to this hard task, my friends as always can challenge me at anytime, of trying to help people to learn the game and if they are not satisfied they can open up a forum and say it, I will learn and hopefully if they like a lot I also hope they open a forum to talk about their experience.

To all thanks for asking help, this is what I prefer to do to playing a game of chess, as those who will succeed will make my day!

I can hardly learn anymore playing chess on this site as I have challenged a number of players over the 2300 mark to no avail whatsoever, I truly wanted to see their technique and skills and game plan and intuitive moves learned from years of experience and to no avail, there is I believe a click or group or sect ofor the uninitiated.

I have also suggested the site owner in the wishlist to ask the higher ranking players to allow a one per month game against the 300 to 500 points less players from their ranking, freewill naturally the same as I do when  I accept greeters, to no avail, not even a simple answer as: this is unthinkable! Who do you think you are for daring to ask our elite players to challenge you, you are in the "minus habens" category, the less than nothing in latin.

So I think that I have found my vocation on this site and believe that I can help people learn the game, so just ask as many questions as you want and do tell me why you want to play a certain move, I will then try to tell you what I know and if do not know I will do research to even educate myself.

well I can see plenty of players available to challenge  over 2300 rating, did they all turn you down? Many regularly play people a lot below paul's rating.  I am over 2400 here but no expert but if Paul wants to challenge I will not refuse, I have never  done to anyone, albeit I might  ask for a week delay if  i  have a lot of games on.

Paul, nice offer. I just started coaching a USCF 600 from my area pro-bono. She's been stuck at that rating despite a chess library and weekly games.

For all those "haters" out there - come on - this guy has knowledge and is willing to share his experience - I mean look at his age - come on now - chess is one of the greatest mental activities I have ever come across - and I would jump at the opportunity to be coached by a teacher who I meshed well with - right now I am happy going at it solo - but for those who are currently looking for a teacher - this guy seems legit!
