does this mean you could draw/defeat with death or the devil?

cause i know a friend who can draw with houdini and even showed me games where he defeated it but it was not in my presence.

    opinion please?

if it weren't in your presence it doesn't count.

he might have had anohter chesscomputer think for him and insert the move against houdini.

Some are like that they just want to boust.

And they get happy at hearing you say "I know something who beat houdini/fritz or chessmaster " at strongest level...

he might as well have said he climbed mount everest with one hand.

but winning over a chess engine with 3000+ is kind of hard if you are not a 2000+-GM level.

if the engine is available to every1 then it's just a matter of time before someone beat it in a variation but if it's not for sale then it'll have tricks up it sleeves to beat even GMs

but he did DRAW in my presence i dont care much if he can win BUT does this mean he could draw achessgame against the devil or death? like capablanca almost lost?

It means either one, or both of you are stupid.

i am still not fully convonced IF a human can make sacrifices so deep that a engine cant see it and ends up losing THEN perhaps the devil can do the same...to the human....get my point?

what were the engine settings? what are the computer specs? i could beat any engine if i can change the settings to whatever i want.

He either set Houdini to play (well) below its full strength (this is a standard engine parameter) or faked the games (someone else's games, reversed the names on black/white etc). Even Anand would struggle to beat Houdini.

the computer was a dial core sony with 1gb ram i saw him drawing with the engine his play looked very boring but neat his claim is that the only proper way is if you can to make the position complex and then pull of something the computer did not see in advance if could get my hands on some of the games and i could mail it to you? will you be able to find if there s something wrong?

The easiest way to tell would probably be to play through the games with Houdini yourself and see if it makes the same moves that it purportedly did against your friend. If it consistently makes different ones then he had probably tweaked the settings

Just a note on your presuppositions:

    The devil is not omnipotent.

    Someone has already defeated death.

sho the game in this forum for others to speculate and find the truth.

TRUE the devil is not ompipotent but i ve been thinking it must be not the same as playing against the engine the devil could use trickery and pure evil play while the engine is trying to play PERFECT and neat BUT i believe it wont suite him so much to be playing with the white pieces my friend always draws with BLACK

ALSO i think its of vitale importance to be able to play blind or play in your sleep cause death often comes when people sleep and its a bigger test cause in your dreams you cant pretend like you in real life and you re more compelled to be how you really are it always shows your weakness.. Sometimes i dream i play chess but i can never remember the game and i cant play blind yet but hell i ll be workin on it.. SOMETIMES i know i am awake but i am dreaming and in front of my eyes i see everything as real to the smallest details ..the sky the atmosphere.. the lights..the sounds..everything..i feel my heart beating ..get short on breath when running and so on..IT s strange but fascinating..ONE thing that worries me is that noone recalled meeting death in their dreams and challenging it to a chess game..seems like everyone ended up losing..death must be playin on a real high level..but i guess most ppl dont play chess that good ... or death chooses her victims carefully..when weak or such..but i can play when drunk just as equally good xD

Wait...are you being literal? As in, you believe in a physical, actual chess game against Death????

    OK....

People are totally misunderstanding the difference between top computers these days and humans. Even Internet Chess programs could beat the likes of Kasparov with 12/14 or so; there are computers which could beat those 10-0, then others which could beat those 10-0, and then finally you have programs like Houdini and Rybka 4 which even the last computers I described would rarely ever get a draw against. The strategy doesn't matter: if you're playing full-strength Houdini, you lose (assuming you're a human).

Please, let us see the game to make our own decision.
