What would it be and why?
I don't know what to ask for in the way of presents for the holidays, so I decided to ask for some chess books, and was curious as to what other members of chess.com would want to get.
Logical Chess: Move By Move: Every Move Explained by Irving Chernev
I learned more from this book the any other but it helps to understand the principles of chess before picking it up... like good bishops/bad bishops... weak/strong squares... basic openings.... pawn structure.
I chose this one because the author has grouped various games that show a theme and then goes through every move to explain why that pawn was moved or why he sacrifices that rook on that particular square. It really shows you the thought process and how great chess strategy and tactics comes together to win.
