Interest in a 45 45 team league?

I read that another popular chess site has a 45 45 team league and it sounded like a fun idea.

Any interest in this on chess.com? Swiss style, teams of 5-8 where 5 compete in a match each week? Broken up into ratings groups of course.

I always thought chess would be even more fun in a team setting. And I've often asked for longer standard time controls on here so seems like a good fit to me.

I'm in a somewhat awkward time zone, so I don't know whether I could actually participate, but I'm interested nonetheless.

Well so far we have enough interest for one team, so.... we're all the first tournament champions!! Congrats!

Hopefully there is more interest for such a thing though.

Sweet!   Is there going to be a ticker tape parade in our honor?

Yes, ICC does it. I would be interested in such a thing here.

Count me in for this! I need to play longer time control games - at the moment 15|0 counts as a "long" game for me! I'd be able to play most weeks, but not all, hopefully that's ok.

That is why teams have a couple extra players, so that not everyone is required to play every single week but can still be a part of it.

The problem is abusing, like people not showing up, hard to make a time etc..

If there was a special league like on ICC, where you agree on a time in pm, and if opponent does not show up it automatically declares you the winner etc, rather than someone saying my opponent did not show up, and the opponent says the same, who is right, who is wrong?

This thread is for interest in starting a league. Rules would exist.

    The rules would be complicated..

Lets say your the organizer and people report results to you.

I play Anonymous tomorrow at 2 pm.

Tomorrow 2pm comes.. he does not show up but I do.

Later on he pms you, the organizer, and says I did not show up, but I pm you saying he did not show up.

    It would just complicate matters.

But if there was an automated machine that pairs you up at 2 pm, and if one doesnt show up the automated machine automatically gives me the point.

It's impossible to do it like that, so people can try to abuse rules.

I see what you're saying, there are plenty ways around this however eg. whenever a match is played both players send a message to a "captain" at the start (messages are time-stamped) confirming that they are there. Thats just a way off the top of my head. Also hopefully the majority of people taking part not being lying a**holes would help Tongue Out

This thread is to see if there is interest for the league. If there is enough interest I plan on going forward with setting it up and listing the procedures and rules.

I don't plan on using this thread to go over every small rule that would exist, since if there isn't enough interest it is a moot point, but it would not be complicated to monitor such things.

There is also cheating rules.. you have to take your own measures to disqualify players yourself.. because chess.coms (idk) might take a lot longer to ban players, and by then its too late, but the point is how can you find out if players are cheating.. a lot of difficult rules to implement.
