how can we get an international rating or perhaps a FIDE rating.  im keen on this since there are tournaments where you can join because they prerequire a master rating.  I consider myself an average and a better player that may beat a rated player.  i'd like to join one in singapore since im on a tour but this is the case.  are there any other means aside from live tournaments? is it possible to get a real rating through playing in the internet? thank you and God bless you

no it is not possible to get a FIDE rating over the internet, obviously due to the risk of too many people using computer assistance!!

To obtain a FIDE rating you must play at least 9 games against FIDE rated players, these are called tranches. the tranches are obtained when you play at least 3 games against rated players, and the average of this tranche is above 1400.

an example

tranche 1 - A TOURNAMENT

1800 - 1

1900 - X

2000 - 0

1.5 POINTS OUT OF 3= TOTAL ADVERSARY POINTS=5700 DIVIDED 3= FIRST TRANCHE 1900 POINTS

You then repeat this until you have a total of 9 games, the average rating of these tranches will then become your fide rating.

Hope this helps!
