Consider proving that it is so first.

They have developed a new field in math called "internets" where anything is true until proven wrong in every case.

It's quite impressive when you realise that out of 18 posts in the thread, 6 posts where made from the "It's tackey" fella. For someone that doesn't like to talk about money, he still makes 6 posts in a thread about money, and he managed to bring it up as early as the first post.

it was with my last account and it was correspondence chess in a 1800-2000 tournament, and my uncle owned a company called shreve systems where he sold apple compuer parts during the 80's and 90's he also owns shreve audio where he sells guitars and other equipment. he also owns lots of real estate. not that its any of your business talking about money is tacky and i prefer not to do it, but youre calling me a liar. by the way im sure erik will be flattered that you have a crush on him

I'd imagine that Silman with his book sales probably beats Erik, although that may change as the site does well.

I'd say Kasparov would be up there in terms of making money from chess. That dude had his name on all kinds of crap. I had a radio shack Kasparov chess computer, and also a video game chess with his name on it back in the day. And he's sold a buttload of books.

Fischer probably could have set a record if it had been important to him. Americans would have bought Bobby Fisher anything back then. Unfortunately, he refused to let anyone else profit off his name, so neither did he.

I've got a twenty that says Erik isn't rich.  He won't be, anyway, once he pays those programmers to bring back the average opponent stat.

You think websites just grow on trees?

Riches are not measured in money. Erik is charming polite and patient with idiots, he has made many people happy all over the world and has their respect for being an all round good guy, so yes he perhaps is the richest chess player in the world.

...of all the chess players to have tapped into the accumulation of wealth, and danced to the tune of the "greenback"...you seriously think "erik the red" to be the richest? Assuming that we only limit ourselves to GMs...I would say Karpov and Kasparov are way ahead (on those accumulating wealth from chess exclusively)...

...of couse one would assume that erik is making a pretty penny from this very popular site...but that would only be speculation...you are only looking at the membership and making a rudimentary calculation on only the income part of the equation...we have no clue what his expenses are, nor investment costs...

...in realty a lot of businesses seem to be making lots, but are really only just getting by...
