Hi everyone
I am not sure about a rule with regards to correspondence chess. I am playing a close game that is getting close to the end game component of the match. I was playing it on my iPhone when I encountered a weird issue with the browser. The browser displayed a move where it made it appear that my opponent was centralizing his king for the end game so I was trying to do the same with my king.
What actually happened in the game was that my opponent threatened a piece that I knew that I was going to move to a safe location if he did threaten it and i would continue with trying to get my king centralized for the eventual pawn push. Because of the issue with the browser that occurred, I made the wrong choice of move and thus the piece was hung and it was vital for the endgame.
Is it possible to requests takebacks in a game like this or do I have to chalk it up to a computer glitch and try to make the best of it?
I have not been playing correspondence chess for very long so I do not know the etiquette and I have not spoken to my opponent yet regarding this issue.
Any help that anyone can provide to me regarding this matter would be most appreciated.
Thanks for your time and Happy Holidays to all :)
I figured that this would be the case. Well guess I am going to try to make lemonade from this lemon but I really wonder how things would have turned out if not for the blunder caused by the browser glitch.
I did have a similar occurence in a game with a personal friend of mine - and for that reason only was comfortable in asking for a "takeback" move. With a stranger, I'm afraid you just take your chances... it happens so rarely that I don't think it's really an issue you need to think about - and I do play on my iPod as well.
At least you can ask for a rematch - you might even ask for a "replay" from that same point in the game, you could agree to make the same moves up to that point... however, you'd have to trust the other player to follow through.
I'm happy Chess.com doesn't have a takeback feature. It plagues some of the other chess sites I play at.
Thanks for all the help everyone. Going to be a struggle to say the least to keep him from queening one of his pawns but who knows...maybe in playing a stubborn defense i might get him to blunder.
Thanks everyone for their input and Happy Holidays :)
Well i won the game on a technicality cause my opponent did not make a move although he had a won position due the browser blunder.
