A chess friend of mine tries his best to remember master chess games (eg Andersson vs Morphy or Capablanca games).

1) Is this a good way to improve your chess or a waste of time?

2) How about remembering your games that you have played before?

master games are great for improving patterns because you may not fully understand the reasons for them. as far as your own games, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
